Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal data Dabers ANPR handles and why. It covers the Chrome extension, this website and the lookup service.
In short
- We hold your account details, credit balance, the image addresses you look up and the results.
- We do not track your browsing, sell data or show ads. This website sets no cookies.
- Card payments go through Stripe; we never see card numbers.
- Email marcin@dabers.uk to see, fix or delete your data.
Who we are#
The data controller is Marcin Daber, trading as Dabers ANPR. Contact: marcin@dabers.uk.
What we collect#
| Data | Where it comes from | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email address and login ID | Our login provider, when you sign in | To run your account |
| Credit balance and lookup activity | Created when you use the service | To provide lookups and charge credits |
| Image web addresses you look up | The extension, when you right-click an image | To read the plate. We do not receive the page you were on, only the image address |
| Number plates and MOT results | Read from the image; MOT data from the DVSA | To show you the history and avoid charging twice for the same image |
| Payment records (amount, date, Stripe customer ID) | Stripe, when you buy credits | To add credits and keep accounts for tax |
| Technical logs (IP address, request times, errors) | Our servers | To keep the service secure and fix faults |
We do not receive your card details; Stripe handles them. We do not track your browsing. The extension only acts on an image when you right-click it and choose the lookup.
Lawful bases (UK GDPR Article 6)#
- Contract: running your account, lookups, credits and payments.
- Legitimate interests: caching results so you are not charged twice, security logging, preventing abuse. We have balanced these against your interests; you can object (see Your data rights).
- Legal obligation: keeping payment records for tax.
Who we share it with#
We use these processors. Each only gets what it needs:
| Processor | What for | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Kinde | Sign-in and accounts | Name, email, login ID |
| Stripe | Payments | Payment and billing details, Stripe customer ID |
| Cloudflare | Hosting and delivering this website, blocking attacks | IP address, page requested, browser details, request time |
| Plate Recognizer | Reading the plate from the image | Image web address (they fetch the image) |
| DVSA MOT History API | MOT records | Number plate only |
| Our hosting provider | Running our servers and database | All of the above that we store |
Some processors are based outside the UK. Where data leaves the UK we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the ICO's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
We do not sell personal data or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it#
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Account and credit balance | While your account is open; deleted within 30 days of a deletion request |
| Cached lookups (image address, plate, MOT result) | Up to 5 months |
| Payment records | 6 years, as UK tax law requires |
| Server logs | Up to 30 days |
In the extension#
The extension stores your login session in Chrome's local extension storage on your device so you stay signed in. Logging out clears it. The extension does not use cookies or analytics.
On this website#
This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising trackers. It installs a service worker that caches page assets on your device so it loads faster and works offline. You can clear it in your browser settings.
Your rights#
You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, or take it elsewhere. How to do that: Your data rights.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, complain to us first by email. We acknowledge complaints within 30 days and respond without undue delay (how to complain). You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes#
We will post changes here and update the date below. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the extension or by email.
