In short
Motorwatch is a free price tracker with an MOT checker built in. It works on seven UK vehicle sites, including AutoTrader UK, Carwow and Cinch, and needs no sign-up.
Dabers ANPR does one job: it reads the plate from a car photo on any site and shows the MOT history on the page. It has no price tracking.
On the sites Motorwatch covers, it gives a retail buyer more for nothing. Dabers ANPR is for the sites it does not cover.
Motorwatch is the largest of the extensions we compared. On 12 October 2026 its listing showed 6,000 users, a rating of 4.8 from 80 ratings, a Featured badge and a last update on 4 August 2026. What follows about Motorwatch comes from that listing and from motorwatch.co.uk. We have not run it.
What Motorwatch does#
It is a price tracker first. Users of the extension feed in the prices they see, and the listing says more than 30 million vehicle prices have been tracked. Price changes are shown on the listing, so you can see whether a car has been reduced before you click into it.
The MOT checker comes with it. The listing says it "flags mileage discrepancies or date changes that don't add up, and highlights recurring faults", links to the MOT certificate, and suggests negotiation points from the car's price and MOT history.
It is free, and the listing says: "No sign-up. No Chrome Sync required. No personal data collected."

Where Motorwatch is the better choice#
If you buy retail from AutoTrader, Carwow or Cinch, Motorwatch gives you price history and MOT history together for free, without an account. Dabers ANPR offers neither price history nor automatic flags, and its Autotrader support is limited today. For that buyer, on those sites, Motorwatch is the one to install.
Where Dabers ANPR fits better#
Motorwatch names seven sites. The ones it names on its listing and website are retail marketplaces: AutoTrader UK, Carwow, Cinch, PistonHeads, heycar and MCN. Neither page mentions BCA, Manheim or Facebook Marketplace.
Trade stock often comes from those places, and from dealer sites and part-exchange photos sent over by email or chat. Dabers ANPR needs only a photo with a readable plate, so it works wherever the photo is displayed in Chrome. The result is the full DVSA record, test by test, with every advisory and failure. If you are unsure how to weigh what it shows, MOT defect severity vs real-world risk goes through the grades.
The two extensions do not get in each other's way. Plenty of buyers could run Motorwatch on the retail sites and Dabers ANPR everywhere else. How it works shows the right-click step.
